What do firefighters do when they are not on calls?
Please contact PG&E at (800)-PGE-5000
Emergency response is just a part of what they do. Firefighters check, clean, and maintain their stations and equipment, participate in emergency related training, conduct fire inspections, teach students about fire awareness, etc.
Why do I have to dial 911? Can’t I just call the fire station directly?
Do I need to put a smoke alarm in every room? How many do I need?
When you dial 911, the system routes the unit that is closest to your location for the fastest response. Fire stations are not properly equipped to take emergency calls and calling the station directly can actually delay response times.
Smoke alarms should be placed outside each sleeping area and on every level of the home, including the basement. On floors without bedrooms, alarms should be installed in or near living areas such as dens, living rooms, or family rooms.
What is the best thing to do for a burn?
Cool a burn with water. Do not use ointments, butter or other substances. For minor burns contact a physician. For serious burns, dial 911 immediately.
