About the Manteca Police Department

The Manteca Police Department began on May 18, 1918 on the day of incorporation. Prior to 1918 our community had law enforcement however they were called town marshals and worked for San Joaquin County. Our township was Castoria Township and we had a population of approximately 315 people. As of the 2000 census we have over 50,000 people and we continue to provide you with a full service police department.

The Department’s canine unit is the longest continuously operating police dog program in the state, having been in operation for over 35 years. Manteca’s School Resource Officer program is the standard by which other programs are measured. Employees of the Manteca Police Department are staff instructors at three colleges and two police academies. Members of our Department have received recognition form various State and Federal organizations such as the California Crime Prevention Officers Association, MADD, Rotary International, and the American Legion for outstanding police work.

Our patrol cars are equipped with on board video cameras to document high-risk situations and global positioning systems to assist in pursuits. Our officers have thermal imagers and night observation optics to help locate suspects and victims in low visibility searches. Our state of the art dispatching and computerized report system is second to none.
